A NOTE ABOUT SPOILERS

The following FAQ entries may contain spoilers. Only the biggest ones (if any) will be covered with spoiler tags. Spoiler tags are used sparingly in order to make the page more readable.

For detailed information about the amounts and types of (a) sex and nudity, (b) violence and gore, (c) profanity, (d) alcohol, drugs, and smoking, and (e) frightening and intense scenes in this movie, consult the IMDb Parents Guide for this movie. The Parents Guide for The Strangers can be found at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482606/parentalguide.

No. The Strangers is based on a screenplay written by director Brian Bertino. It was inspired by an event from Bertino's childhood. A stranger came to his home asking for someone. Later, he found out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been burglarized. Bertino put two random events together and came up with a fictional story.

At the end of the credits, there is a disclaimer saying that all the events in the movie are fictional and any resemblances to any persons living or dead, etc, are completely coincidental.

No. The Strangers was written two years before Ils was made.

The record is saying "Quicksilver girl". The song is "My First Lover" by Gillian Welch.

Because they were home. In other words, simply because they're psychopaths who attack people at random just for the fun of it.

No. They're kept anonymous. Only brief glimpses are shown, such as Dollface's face cloaked in shadow, and The Man in the Mask's eyes in the truck's side-view mirror. You also see the profile shot of Pinup Girl's face when she exits the truck towards the end of the film and one of the strangers' faces when she knocks on their door asking for a person, although they didn't know yet that she is a killer.

There's a long enough pause between the noises being made and James appearing in the bedroom for this to be plausible. Likely the strangers saw his car approaching and hid.

"Sprout and the Bean" - Joanna Newsom. Other songs: "Ariel Ramirez" - Richard Bucknker, "Hopeful" - Jennifer O'Connor, "At My Window Sad and Lonely" - Billy Bragg and Wilco, "My First Lover" - Gillian Welch, "Mama Tried" - Merle Haggard

No. But there are deleted scenes, such as: The death scene of Kristen is probably different than it originally was, because in the trailers you can see Kristen crawling on the floor in blood, this was also included on one of the Posters There will probably be an unrated version with added scenes.

Horror films rarely have a post-credits scene. "The Strangers" is no exception.

When James first enters the home, he leaves the key in the door. Kristen soon follows after putting out a half smoked cigarette, but she does not remove the key either. James is preoccupied and distraught from the start of the film so this is not improbable.

How does it end?

The strangers catch Kristen and James and tie them up. Then, they take turns stabbing them. Afterwards, they leave one by one. James eventually dies, but Kristen is still alive (though badly wounded). In the morning, two boys see Kristen and James' house broken into, so they go in. They find Kristen on the floor and one of the boys goes out to touch her. She wakes up and screams.

Will there be a sequel?

A sequel has been confirmed. Director Brian Bertino will write the script, but is not yet known whether or not he will direct.

Pin-up Girl said this to Dollface because it was her first time as a killer.
