With only one weekend left to consider for Summer 2008 - and considering it will only feature College, Babylon A.D., and Disaster Movie - this is the perfect time to reflect on the highs and lows of one of the biggest, if not the biggest, summer movie season ever.

Let's start by taking a look at the top ten films over the past four months, in terms of domestic box office:

1 - The Dark Knight ($500 million plus)

2 - Iron Man ($317 million)

3 - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($315 million)

4 - Hancock ($226 million)

5 - Wall-e ($216 million)

6 - Kung Fu Panda ($212 million)

The dollars might shift a little bit, but outside of Wanted and Hulk, no movies are poised to change positions at this point, and no other

Photo: Sony Pictures Kris Tapley at InContention brings up a good point with regards to this year's likely candidates for Best Original Song at the Oscars. "Talk about a wasteland..." He points out Peter Gabriel's "Down to Earth" from Wall E, Jennifer Hudson's "All Dressed Up in Love" from Sex and the City, "The Call" by Regina Spektor from The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and the dark horse chance that Hamlet 2's "Sexy Jesus" would get a nod after a hard push by Focus. Tapley comes to the obvious conclusion based on the fact that no one is humming any of those songs at the moment leaving the field wide open. I left while the credits were rolling on The House Bunny last night, but I believe Katherine McPhee's "I Know What Boys Like" is an original track made for the film as it carries the film's original title.

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Dexter - The Complete Second Season I already reviewed this second season of Showtime's "Dexter" and offered up quite a bit of praise, but as I say in my review, if you are interested in getting started with this show about a Miami blood splatter specialist doubling as a serial killer I recommend you first check out the first season because this is a show you don't want to jump into in the middle. If you have a Netflix Roku player you can check it out in the Instant Play as I did. Quick, easy and simple. I am not sure if this is a show you will want to buy however. As much as I enjoyed my time watching it, the second season character Lila played by Jaime Murray really hurts any chance of watching it over and over again.

Actors Liam Neeson and Orlando Bloom have signed on to star in an untitled adaptation of Bill Carter’s book “Fools Rush In,” according to Variety.

In the book, Carter recounts the time he spent in Sarajevo working as an aid worker during the Balkans war siege.

Andrucha Waddington (“Eu Tu Eles”) is directing the film, which is expected to head into principal photography later this year.

Also in talks to play a supporting character is Javier Bardem, who recently won an Academy Award for his performance in “No Country For Old Men.”

Neeson most recently lent his voice to Aslan in “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.” According to IMDb, he’s currently filming “Five Minutes of Heaven” for Oliver Hirschbiegel.

Bloom’s last film was “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.” He will next star in “New York, I Love You.”

“The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” topped the international box office for the second consecutive week with $56.1 million in 49 markets, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rob Cohen’s sequel starring Brendan Fraser lifted its international cumulative to $141.1 million, reaching a worldwide total of $211.7 million. At No. 2, Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” pulled in $35.1 million, bringing its overseas total to $263.1 million.

Pixar’s comuter-animated hit “Wall-e” finished in third place this weekend, collecting $18.1 million in 28 markets and lifting its cumulative gross to $121.6 million. Meanwhile, Universal’s musical “Mamma Mia!” took home $14.7 million in 24 territories (for a $173.4 million overseas total).

DreamWorks Animation’s family adventure “Kung Fu Panda” earned $8 million at No. 5, reaching an overseas cumulative gross of an impressive $347.5 million. Following in sixth place was Peter Berg’s action hit “Hancock,” which after this weekend’s earnings of $6.5 million brought its international total to $332.1 million.

The Jonas Brothers have emerged the big winners at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, scooping a total of six prizes.

The pop trio was named Choice Breakout Group, Choice Male Hottie and Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon Male, while their track When You Look Me in the Eyes won them two awards - Choice Music Single and Choice Music Love Song. Another single, Burnin' Up, earned the siblings the Choice Summer Song gong.

Another major victor was the cast of TV show Gossip Girl - the programme also took home six awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

The show was announced as the winner of the Choice TV Show Drama category, while actress Blake Lively was named Choice TV Breakout Star Female and Choice TV Actress Drama.

Gossip Girl actors Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford joined in the celebrations after winning Choice TV Villain and Choice TV Breakout Star Male, respectively.

Other multiple winners at the annual prizegiving included Will Smith, Juno star Ellen Page, R+B singer Chris Brown, and the event's host, Miley Cyrus.

British actor Colin Firth has signed on to star opposite Ben Barnes in Oliver Parker’s “Dorian Gray,” an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Barnes will play Dorian Gray, a young man who becomes the subject of a painting. As the man embarks on his quest for pleasure, the painting begins to change and age.

Firth is set to play Lord Henry Wotton, a ruthless aristocrat who corrupts Gray with his worldview.

Firth is currently onscreen in Universal’s “Mamma Mia!” He will next be seen alongside Uma Thurman in Griffin Dunne’s comedy “The Accidental Husband.”

Barnes is known best for his role as Prince Caspian in “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.” He also recently wrapped Stephan Elliott’s British comedy “Easy Virtue,” in which he stars opposite Jessica Biel and, coincidentally, Colin Firth.

The Dark Knight has entered the Australian box office chart at number one. The Batman sequel took over twice as much as nearest rival Mamma Mia! on its opening weekend. Will Smith's superhero movie Hancock has landed the top spot at the UK box office. It beat off competition from Jack Black's animated comedy Kung Fu Panda to claim the number one position. Prince Caspian falls two places to third, while Angelina Jolie's assassin movie Wanted slips to fourth. Elsewhere, Frank Darabont's Stephen King adaptation The Mist debuted at eight. Will Smith's superhero antics in Hancock has landed him at number one on the global box office chart.

The action film took $78.3 million (GBP39.15 million) over the weekend (04-06Jul08), leaving animated comedy Kung Fu Panda far behind in second place with $38 million (GBP19 million).

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is at number three with $24.3 million (GBP12.15 million), while former chart topper Wanted slips to number four with $18.8 million (GBP14.4 million) and Wall-E rounds out the top five with $13 million (GBP6.5 million).

Will Smith’s latest action hit “Hancock” dominated the international box office this weekend with a stunning $78.3 million in ticket sales in 50 territories, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Along with its five-day domestic gross of $107.3 million, Peter Berg’s film brought its worldwide total to $185.6 after just a few days in release. That’s not a bad result for Will Smith, who proved yet again he’s still a global box office hero.

DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda” delivered another strong weekend performance overseas with $38 million in a total of 44 markets. John Stevenson and Mark Osborne’s computer-animated family adventure lifted its international total to $151 million.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian star Ben Barnes based his character on an unlikely source - controversial British royal Prince Harry.

The 26-year-old is the same age as Harry's elder brother Prince William, but admits that Caspian is more like the younger, more laid-back royal.

He says, "Caspian is not a swashbuckling heroic Prince Charming, but Americans expect somebody like that. Their concept of a Prince is Disney - that's all they know.

"But I've grown up with two princes, one my age, one my younger brother's age. Caspian makes mistakes; Harry goes to a party dressed as a Nazi. Caspian does something heroic; Harry goes and fights for his country without telling anyone.

"I think it's interesting that they are real people, making real decisions about their lives, but they have the responsibility that they may or may not want."

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian has shot to the top of box office ratings, taking $8.12 million (GBP4.06 million) in its opening weekend.

The film, starring British newcomer Ben Barnes, ends The Incredible Hulk's two-week reign at the top. The all-action blockbuster dropped to third, taking in $1.31 million (GBP652,680).

Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy's new movie Wanted has opened in second place with $6.36 million (GBP3.18 million).

Adulthood kept steady at the number four spot, bringing in (GBP1.29 million) GBP649,112. The new top five is rounded out by Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which took $1.25 million (GBP625,630).

While Timur Bekmambetov’s action hit “Wanted” failed to outperform Pixar’s “Wall-e” at the North American box office, the thriller starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie easily took the No. 1 spot overseas, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Wanted” opened in 22 markets this weekend, collecting an impressive $33 million. Its domestic rival “Wall-e” only debuted in six international markets, taking in $3.1 million. The computer-animated adventure will expand into more markets in the coming weeks and months.

DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda” finished second at the international box office this weekend with $21.5 million, brining its foreign total to $98.5 million. Following closely in third place was “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,” which opened in several new markets with a gross of 20.1 million.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian star Ben Barnes is embarrassed about his newly found heart-throb status - insisting he doesn't feel comfortable when people view him as a sex symbol.

The 26-year-old shot to fame with the title role in the latest adaptation of C.S. Lewis' classic novels and he has seen his face adorning promotional posters the world over.

But Barnes insists that although he is grateful for the career boost, he is worried about becoming famous for his good looks and not his acting skills.

He says, "I find it all a bit embarrassing to be honest. All this heart-throb thing makes me look at my shoes. I don't really know how to respond to it. I suppose it's quite flattering in a way.

"But when I was shown the poster, I said to a producer in all earnestness, 'Is that sensible? Because you know no one knows who I am.'

"He said, 'The book's called Prince Caspian and we've got to put Prince Caspian on the poster. Sorry mate.' I was a bit worried actually."

Movie theaters across North America saw a lot of green inside and out over the weekend as The Incredible Hulk debuted with an estimated $54.5 million. It marked the second superhero movie from Marvel Entertainment to open at No. 1 at the box office in just over a month. Iron Man hauled in over $100 million in its debut on May 2. Although most critics agreed that the latest film version of the Marvel classic was an improvement over Ang Lee's Hulk five years ago, the new film actually earned less than its predecessor, which took in $62.1 million. Meanwhile, M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, starring Mark Wahlberg, opened with a better-than-expected $30.5 million, according to Media by Numbers. Most box-office forecasters had predicted an $18-22-million opening for the thriller. Last week's top film, Kung Fu Panda, fell to second place with $34.3 million, while You Don't Mess With the Zohan, the latest Adam Sandler comedy plunged to $16.4 million. M. Night Shyamalan’s new mystery thriller “The Happening” topped the international box office this weekend with an estimated $32 million in ticket sales from 88 territories, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Marvel’s “The Incredible Hulk” opened in only 38 markets but came in second with an impressive $31 million. If you add these figures to the domestic results, the picture looks a little different.

The worldwide total for “Hulk” is currently estimated at $85.5 million, while “The Happening” scored $62.5 million (click here for full North American box office report).

“Sex and the City” has been dominating the overseas box office for almost two weeks, but the New Line Cinema chick flick slipped to No. 3 this weekend with $23.3 million. “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” finished with a weekend gross of $18.5 million.

Other foreign results: “Kung Fu Panda” pulled in $14 million, while “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” earned $11.2 million.
